HELL ON WINGS

Managed to finish one last unit for the challenge, a unit of Hellion Skyboarders. This unit is all made from standard GW plastic kits, which has a wide selection of heads and arms to give plenty of variation, the only conversion work I had to do was to make some of the torsos female, as other than Wracks and Grotesques my whole army is female.

Originally the Hellions were part of the Wych Cult in the first edition rules, but by second edition they had become a separate cult. I wanted to keep a link to the Wyches so used a similar colour scheme, I changed the colour of the undersuit to a dark brown rather than black and left off the distinctive red face paint my Wyches have, but the rest remained the same.

I've named them the Pack of the serrated blade, and added suitable markings on the wings.

Originally I'd started making a unit of 5 skyboarders using a hoverboard I got from a cheap toy mixed with the engine from the original metal Hellions, I intend to still use these but will now be beastmasters, as they now ride skyboards as well. Above is the only one I've completed so far, made from an earlier version of Morathi from the Dark Elf range.

That's all for this post so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

    1. Thank you Iain, unfortunately they proved tricky to photograph, but glad I finally got them painted

  2. Nice job, Dave. I haven't bought a GW product (other than paint) in years; but I was sorely tempted to pick up this Gangs of Commoragh game solely for the cool skyboarder miniatures. I passed on them, and now I can't find a boxed set anywhere nowadays for less than a year's tuition. Great work on them! Sorry I missed this challenge; but you'll be happy to know I'm finishing up the last of my Trek miniatures (at least until Modiphius makes more).

    1. Thank you Keith, I don't buy a lot of GW products nowadays, most of these models have been in my possession for many years, completely missed that boxed set, but probably already had the models I wanted by the time it came out.
No worries on the challenge, I'm sure I'll have another soon. Great news on the Trek models, try not to look at them too often as I probably don't need another project ! LOL just as long as they don't bring out a DS9 or Voyager boxset I should be good.

    1. Thank you Joe, they have a four strap harness that is linked by a chain to the board, but probably not enough ! LOL
Keeping the army as a whole tying together, even though they're are so many different factions has been a trial to get enough difference without making the whole army look bitty

  4. I remember when that kit was released Dave, I thought they were so cool & still do, but that last one you've done take it to deep freeze level of coolness :)
Back then we use to play Apoc battles, so I set up this game between Deathguard & Spacewolfs & after turn two (unbeknown to the players) I'd another lad enter the game with his Darkeldar, his mission was to take characters as prisoners for slaves.
Needless to say it was mayhem but get fun, with the highlight been a squad of Spacewolfs circled around the Nurgle Daemon in a chair trying to stop him been taken LOL, happy times :)

    1. Thank you Frank, glad you liked the conversion.
The game sounds awesome, we did a four way game with, space wolves, Marines, Chaos and my Dark Eldar. At the start of the game there was an alliance on both sides, by turn 3 I was hunting trophies from all the forces, never trust Dark Eldar ! LOL

  5. Nice work on your "Green Goblins" sorry Dark Eldar, as said above all of them are good, but that last one is awesome!

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, you can certainly see where they took their inspiration from ! LOL Glad you like the last one, as she was awkward to get right, the worst part was replicating the end of the staff on the other end.
