Recently, one of my customers asked if I could paint up some Burrows and Badgers models for him, obviously I obliged, especially as he has been patiently waiting for my hand to get better so I can build his scenery requests. First today is the white mouse which apparently comes free with the rulebook.
Next is a Black Rat Witch, I did add brown and grey tones into the fur to match the reference. The spider I painted as a Red Widow ( yes it's a real thing who knew ! LOL)
Next is a Hare Warrior, I was surprised at how many different tones there are in a real one.

Last of the quartet is a Platypus, I had a bit of fun with the fur cloak, doing different colors, and also symbols on the inner side.

These were a great change of pace from my normal models, and they are already at my customers, for them to start enjoying.

DeleteI had a lot of fun painting up my BnB hares for that very reason. From the tips of their ears to their multi-browns in their pelts, just interesting and a fun challenge to get painted, "right". Really like the selection of "mammals" shown here. (Great game to play too!)

Thank you Dai, being on a budget with my own hobby, a lot of games I don't bother with even though I'd like to, so getting to paint someone else's helps scratch the itch ! LOL With my interest in nature, I could easily see myself getting lots, so probably just as well not to touch.

ReplyDeleteI have always been curious about Burrows and Badgers miniatures. the hare in armor looks nice, that would be great to have in D&D. it would rival my girlfriend's rabbit rogue.
how well do they scale with other figures, i assume they are 25/28mm.
also gonna have to check out the Monster (May)hem, i tihnk i got one that could use some paint.
Thank you Mr.Martin, I would say the rat and Platypus scale at 25 mm the mouse is smaller and the Hare is bigger, as they have scaled the animals against each other, I was looking yesterday, and they have all sorts of creatures and sizes, right up to a bear.

DeleteA very Bloodhound title, there Dave. I was wondering if you'd take it further in the blog text, but there's always next time! Anthromorphic animals of this style aren't typically my thing, but they do look cool. Aside from the Skaven similarities, there's a bit of an echo of the original pre-Broo beastmen in that Platypus!

Thank you Azazael, indeed it is, maybe another time on the other lyrics ! LOL Some of their sculpts I find less appealing, but these were great to work on, and I do remember those beastmen, they were some of my favourites.
DeleteI'm thinking of changing up the style on the painting of these, just to add in some variation.
The B & B miniatures all look excellent! I think you demonstrated how important photo referencing is on our hobby. The more you do it, the better your results become. I wouldn't have guessed a Platypus made it into B & B but that is cool to see as well. They're a really difficult animal to see in the US. I think San Diego might be the only place that has them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, indeed especially with creatures based off of real life, reference is key to get the right look. B&B has a few surprises in there including a Bear, wasn't expecting that ! LOL The same in the UK, been to a lot of zoo's and never seen one.
