Carrying on with all the Kroot I currently have, I have finished the scatter gun squad, you may remember I did 5 quite a while ago, even though it's not in GW rules as a squad, but since when did I follow the rules ! LOL The first 3 are made following the instructions from the Kill Team boxset.
These next two are Kill Team bodies but Scatter Guns from the Carnivore box set.
The next 3 have got there pistol and blades out and scatter guns sheathed.
These last two are Kill Team weapons, on Kill Team bodies that don't normally have them.
I had fun with the conversions using parts from both Kroot kits, but there is a couple of things that have become apparent, the locating lugs or lack of them on the Kill Team kit is poor, also the detail on both sets of sculpts compared to the original kit is really shallow especially in the face detail, both of these are probably due to them being 3D sculpted, for a seasoned hobbyist, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but may cause problems for people new to the hobby, or with physical impairments. That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Hi Dave I missed your last blog post, it's really good to see you're feeling well enough to be modelling and painting again. Fantastic.

Thank you John, still struggling with the sculpting, but kit bashing and painting are slowly getting back up to speed ! LOL
DeleteThat was a clever post title. 😁
ReplyDeleteNice job on the conversions! I agree, don't let the rules get in the way of a cool miniature.
Thank you Stewart, I try my best with the titles ! LOL I've got the stats for the scatter gun, just not the points for the squad, but I'm sure I can work something out ! LOL
DeleteSplendid looking conversions!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, enjoyed doing them.
DeleteVery nicely done sir! Good to have some variations .
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, that's the theme for the whole army, variation ! LOL
DeleteThese all look great to me. I'm not very familiar with Kroot but the weapons they're brandishing are very impressive indeed. I think the sentiments you shared about these kits are probably applicable to a decent amount of GW ones. Putting them together is a lot more finicky and complicated than it used to be!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, The Scatter gun was added to the Kill Team, and it is now an option for a Shaper in a Carnivore squad, so I've just taken the basic GW concept and expanded it to a full squad ! LOL The shallow detail is down to poor 3D sculpting, where it looks great in render, but once in print loses all definition. As for the fixtures there is no excuse.
DeleteGreat conversions! I would have thought GW had solved any issues with digital sculpting by now, given the large corporation they are and the prices they charge.
ReplyDeleteThank you snapfit, they were fun to do. From what I heard from one of their sculptors was that if the sculptor has only ever done 3D they struggle with detail depth, as long as people keep buying their product they won't worry. An example the original Kroot heads had a lower eyelid sculpted in, the new ones barely have eyeballs ! LOL
DeleteAh, very interesting!
DeleteNicely done, Dave! :-) A lot of variation there, looks really good!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, was something I wanted from the very start of this army, lots of variation.
DeleteCool, they look pretty nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, lots more to come in fact another 26 out of the current models ! LOL
