Continuing on with the Kroot, I've finished the shaper, for the hound pack. I used the head I did the test colour scheme on, and the arms and accessories came from my spares, I had to greenstuff the body, legs and coat to tie it all together, I also put it on a slightly larger base, to make it more stable, as he is only stood on one leg.
Here he is in a group shot with all the hounds which are all now based.
When I can find some plastic Kroot, I'll finish the squad, and I'm thinking of doing them all female, to have all the paler tones in one squad.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Very nicely done, Dave, especially as you made 80% of the mini yourself LOL! I really like the painting on the leather coat, you've got some good leather shades on it and the model contrasts well with the hounds.
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, the negative to making most of the model, is it has to be recognisable as a Kroot. Do like the colours I use for leather, base of GW Rhinox hide, mid layer Vallejo dark fleshtone, and highlight with GW Mournfang brown.
DeleteI'm still in the dark as to what it is you're painting, but they do look good. Your cobersions of the leather-clad figure is completely un-noticeable , save to those in the know presumable?
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, hopefully I've answered a bit on your previous comment, but will try and give more details as I post up more for you. I would guess that a Tau or Kroot player would spot it's not a run of the mill model, as it's not available to buy ! LOL
DeleteGood stuff, Dave. I must confess to having gone right off GW these days - can't remember the last time I bought anything from their new ranges etc. However, despite not having any Kroot, I've always liked them, and would definitely be interested if GW decided to update them/re-release them. Perhaps they should give you a ring to sculpt them..? ;-) Excellent work on the torso etc, and as Matt says, the painting on the leather jacket is top notch.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, I know what you mean, I haven't got a GW model in over a year, and rarely look on their site, the Kroot were such a different species, and the lack of tech was appealing. GW only use their own sculptors now, and everything is done 3D printed now, so wouldn't be much use to them, unless they want some design tips ! LOL Leather can be one of those bits that people either love doing. or hate, I enjoy it, so likely to see more ! LOL
DeleteNot been tempted to go 3D sculpting and printing yourself then, Dave..? I suppose that would require you to fund an entire new operation..?
DeleteIt's an avenue I am considering, when I can, who knows when that will be ! LOL
DeleteNow that is a really nice figure, Dave! :-) Really looks as though he is running with his hounds! Very dynamic!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, was exactly what I was aiming for, originally I'd thought of having him kneeling with the hounds, but thought this would convey a lot more movement.
DeleteOh, I love the pose, that's a clever repurposing of the mini. I love the pic with the hounds, really atmospherical!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, hopefully when I can get hold of some more plastics, I can get the rest of the unit to match them.
DeleteOnce again Dave an amazing bit of work, the Kroot are odd in that they are not an advance race which migh be why GW gives them not love these days.
ReplyDeleteGW is now a very different beast from when the Kroot were thought up and seem to have the same, this could be fun attitude that they once had.
Sorry that should read don't have the same attitude
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, When Specialist games were originally going, Mark Bedford, had a real passion for adding stuff to the Kroot. Now it is just part of Forgeworld, and is heading in a very different direction.
DeleteNo worries, I got the jist of it
Nice job on the miniature. It looks the bizness. All motion and speed. 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, was what I was aiming for, so mission achieved.
DeleteVery nicely done making her look so natural in that pose. Good sculpting too mate to match up with the plastic parts. A unit of these ladies will be quite striking I think.
ReplyDeleteThank you Dai, was pleased with the end result, even if it was very different from my initial idea, and glad I could tie in the original pieces seamlessly.
DeleteGreat stuff Dave! As others have mentioned lovely work capturing the motion of the figure 😀
ReplyDeleteThank you Ivor, it can be very satisfying to create a model that everyone see's the same as you do.
DeleteVery nifty. I really love the idea of Kroot and back when I was doing 40K I wished they were their own faction. Good to see that I'm not the only one who likes Kroot. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann, they are the best new race GW came up with in my opinion, and agree it was a shame GW didn't do more with them other than the Chapter Approved list.
DeleteI was exiting 40K as the Tau were just starting to be a thing, so I don't know much about Kroot. I do like the models, however; and as always your work on them is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith, I was still working for GW when they were released, I got bored with the Tau quickly, but the Kroot were far more interesting. I've got a expansion to the monster you inspired me to get built coming up.
DeleteLovely looking conversion work on your Kroot, came out really well!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, was happy with the end result, and being an albino really makes him stand out from the others.
DeleteI never thought of the Kroot as being a pretty flexible force but you've convinced me that you can do a lot of different things with them. That shaper came out really nicely and I love how dynamic the sculpt is! He really looks like he is in a fight somewhere in the 40k universe.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, if you look at the basic Tau entry, they are very limited, but the Chapter Approved Kroot list really fleshed them out as a race in their own right. the sculpt changed a lot as I was making him, as when I started adding the green better flows to the form would reveal themselves.
