Recently Frank from nickelandimeproductions offered to send me some Star Wars figures he had, as he thought I would get more use out of them. On Friday a parcel arrived, and Frank had sent me the contents of Imperial Assault core box, this included 9 stormtroopers, 3 Imperial officers, 4 Emperor's guard, AT-ST, Darth Vader, 4 Trandoshan hunters, and 7 rebel fighters. This was extremely generous of Frank, which I am eternally grateful for.
Not to leave a gift sitting around I've already painted the two scout troopers with E-Webb cannons painted using my latest recipe, in the picture below the model on the right was my original way of painting them, which really needs to be updated now.
I also did a test stormtrooper, in a clean look which is the model on the right below, and shows how much I need to update the rest of my stormtroopers ! LOL
I've also done a test Snowtrooper, from the Return to Hoth boxset, now before you send the guys with the jacket that does up at the back, I have no intention of doing a full army for both sides on Hoth, not until I've actually finished some of my other Star Wars projects.
I also painted the Imperial tank that came in the boxset, as this has never appeared in a film or series, I went with colours that I thought suited it.
Last up today is K2 SO, this was one of my favourite characters in Rogue One, I was disappointed with the sculpt, as a lot of the finer details were missing, so tried to make up for it with the painting.

Wow! What a generous gift, Dave, and great to see you cracking on with more Star Wars goodies. I'm especially impressed with K2-SO - though I did note your comment about its detail. I've not yet assembled my Legion model, but thought yours looked excellent.

The 3 really bad areas are is neck (just a square peg), Around his shoulders where the yellow line is (Not wide enough, and missing all the panel details), and where the legs meet the groin assembly ( no gap with piston assembly), the back detail is okay, just not enough space for all the red lights, so I left them off ! LOL
DeleteGood to see these things getting some love Dave, the little tank is interesting looking but my favourite would be K2-SO despite all the faults you pointed out with the model. As for the men with the coats that tie at the back, they probably should have come for a few of us years back LOL

DeleteLoving all these Dave! Never seen a Scout on the EWEB, so that's a treat right there. K2 looks great imo - Alan Tyduk's voice acting made that character amazing.

Thank you Dai, it was an unusal choice for manning the e-web, but at the time I guess it was a way of including the scout armour. Alan was awesome in the role, and the way he could voice utter disdain was brilliant.

ROFL I really want to be finished on at least one project before starting another, as Azazel has already got me thinking about adding spaceship battles (holding off at the moment, but my will is breaking !) so another field of battle on top of the two I already have, would be step too far ! LOL
All these look great, Dave, and what a fantastic gift! Those scout troopers look good firing the cannons, and the tank looks really good but was it created just for that box set?

LOL Indeed it was created for the one boxset, and it was the only place to get it, which is a shame, maybe they will make a new one for Legion.

ReplyDeleteIndeed John, have a use for all the models except Darth at the moment, but I will find a use for him as well. getting used to this recipe for Stormtroopers, and each one is getting quicker which has to be a good thing.

ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, indeed unless you followed the releases of Imperial Assault, you were very unlikely to know about it, it actually reminds me of the old Palitoy vehicles that they released that weren't actually from the films. Being my favourite character had to make sure I did the best version I could ! LOL

With all the other pieces you've worked on, this has been a very productive period eh? I do like the robot figure and despite your reservations over the detail on the figure it look very akin to the film version imho.

DeleteNew paints really helped the process develop, as has experimenting with glazes, and for some strange reason, I've managed to get a lot quicker ! LOL
Really wanted to push myself this month, and work past the illness, which worried me that it may6 slow me down. The basic shape, was great on K2, and it made me push harder on the painting, so probably wasn't a bad thing ! LOL
Great stuff Dave! You certainly got the brush to them pretty quick.

ReplyDeleteLooking good, Dave! You're displaying a lot of IA miniatures that are on my paint list, too...eventually I'll get around to the Hoth expansion; but I think Bespin Gambit is next for me. Fewer miniatures means I can call the project done sooner!

Thank you Keith, if your stuck on colours on any of the models, can always give you my recipes if needed. The Hoth box is one of the larger expansions, so can fully understand doing the Bespin one first.
DeleteIt is indeed a strange one with how we hold onto things for so long ! LOL Have done the same myself, holding onto models for years, then spotting someone, working on a project using similar models, and then sending over what I had, as they would see more use.
Very nice job on all of these, Dave. I do love those E-webb blasters but K2 is a favorite character of mine too. Funny, heroic, and pretty cool-looking to boot. I really like the little details you added to the otherwise simple sculpt.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, the E-Webb's are a cool sculpt, even though scout troopers have never been seen with them, who's to say they wouldn't use them. K2 was awesome in the film, and made me smile every time he was on camera. Simple sculpts can be disappointing, but can challenge our painting skills to elevate them ! LOL
