BUG HUNTERS

With only seven days to go I'm making progress on the Monk, and hopefully will get it finished in time, or this will be the first challenge I've failed, so wish me luck ! LOL

In the mean time I've got more Night Hawks to show, another Devastator squad, but this ones geared for laying down mass fire power on troops, the squad consists  3 heavy bolters, a missile launcher and a sergeant with bolter and auxiliary grenade launcher ( not that that piece of equipment  still exists in 40K) There are a mix of Rogue Trader models, and second edition metals.

Painting wise same recipe as before. Next I want to show my old Legion of the Damned squad, as Azazael and I were chatting about them on my last post, I'm thinking of rebasing them but keeping the original painting, see what you think.

The model on the left was the first LotD model to ever be released, Centurius who was a limited edition release, the model next to him is a converted Centurius (this model upset a lot of upper management ! LOL) and the other 3 were converted standard marine models. While photagraphing these I remembered I had a LotD model that came from the first squad release, so I've painted him up as well.

If I ever decide to add to this contingent I'll probably convert them, as the actual models go for crazy prices.

Azazel was trying to see the White Dwarf article on my army, but it has been removed from digital copies, so here it is for all to see.

I took the background for the army for the article, but they just wanted how I made the models ! LOL The army has moved on quite a bit since then, but you may recognize some of the models in there from some of the updates I've shown in the past. I've also got a couple of support weapons done as well, first is a MK I rapier  which I added the old communication marine onto it.

Last today is a Mole Mortar, originally this was going to be a stand alone piece, but I'm now thinking of making them into a squad.

That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Considering you are mostly out for the count mate, there's a whole lot of production being shown off in this post! So much cool stuff too - love the classic sculpts (Especially that Comms Marine.) and seeing you had WD fame!? What year was that from?

    1. Thank you Dai, as I use less of my hand for painting I'm making the most of what I can do ! LOL I noticed Forgeworld released a Comms Marine based off of this model for the Horus Heresy range. The WD was March 1999 according to the internet and had a Dark Eldar on jetbike on the cover.

    2. After some research I'm guessing issue 231? Really impressive though Dave, seriously.

  2. Ohhh, what a lot of lovely stuff for just one post!! I can't decide what I like most! I have a soft spot for LotD, sure, but that RT comm guy on the Rapier surely rocks! And the mole mortar! And the WD! Everything!!

    1. Thank you Suber, just that everything came together all at once, plus Azazael had asked about the LotD and white Dwarf article ! LOL

  3. Amazing stuff there. The Legion look great, but the classic Mole Mortar (bonkers design, love it) and the Rapier? A joy to see
I'll be going through that old White Dwarf article to learn more

    1. Thank you misterc, the more I look at the Legion, I think the color scheme still works, so probably wont do much to them, if you think the original Mole Mortar was mad wait until you see the shoulder mounted version I've come up with ! LOL The army has moved on a lot since the article, with sculpted symbols that are different from codex.

  4. I absolutely adore this era of WH40K, and you've got some wonderful sculpts on show here Dave - with some great paint-jobs too. The old Legion of the Damned squad are the stars for me, and I think leaving the paint-jobs on them would be a good idea. I've actually found an untouched box of them whilst clearing out the garage and your pics have definitely tempted me to paint them up. Terrific WD post too. What a corking posting, mate.

    1. Thank you Simon, the models back then had a lot more character than a lot of the more modern ones, so happy to keep using them. I think the only thing I will do to the LotD is add some subtle highlighting, and rebase them, as having looked at them again I still like my designs on them. Great find Simon, is that first edition or second ? they are going for crazy prices on Ebay.

  5. wow! pretty niffty to have an article about your army (even if it's from a long time ago, it's STILL cool). 😁
good stuff here, but good luck finishing the other thing before the due date.

    1. Thank you Stewart, I had models featured in several other of their publications as well, Citadel Journal, Epic Monthly, and Battlefleet Gothic Monthly as well, but this was the one I was most proud of. Hopefully I wont fail a challenge, but will have to see.

I'm rooting for you finishing the monk, Dave, even if it is a bit creepy! :-) And don't change your Legion of the Damned look as it's very distinctive! The mole mortar must rank with the shokk attak gun as one of the best (i.e. most wacky) weapons ever devised by GW - don't get me wrong, I think they're brilliant!

    1. Thank you John, hopefully the creepy creation will materialize before the end of the month ! LOL The LotD models are back in the box for now, so they are safe, and pretty much decided to only add some highlights if anything and rebase them. I know what you mean, totally bonkers creations but so much fun, got an idea for the rest of the squad having shoulder mounted versions, as Space Marines having servo assisted power armor they would be able to support them themselves, so this could be fun ! LOL

  7. Good luck with the monk, you got this! I like the Legion of the Damned models, I think a nice rebase will do some wonders for the current paint job.

    1. Thank you SD, I'm thinking more of highlighting the black, rather than the flames or bone, and definitely need to get away from those old green bases ! LOL

  8. Good luck with the monkey! Great looking figures and an article I remember from one of the many WD I gave to Simon (Blax) still don't know if he managed to get rid of them all!

    1. Thank you Iain, progressing slowly, maybe a little too slowly though ! LOL Very good memory as it was many years ago now, and finally happy with all the background and iconography for them now.
