This post has a lot less facial hair, with only one model having some, he is part of my unit of mutants for my Lost and Damned army. This is the last unit I need to do to finish this army, but at 30 strong it just seemed a bit daunting to get done, especially as there is nothing tying them together other than they're mutants, as I wanted a real rag tag feel to it. So the first model is my entry for Movember, and was originally a scavvy from the second set made for Necromunda, I added a tentacle for the hand to give him more of a mutant look, rather than just the head lumps.
When I started the unit, the first place I went to was the muties, from Gorkamorka, now these are normally mounted on steeds, so I used legs from the zombies, and Mordheim plastics, to make them on foot.
The next area I looked at Necromunda, primarily the Scavvy gang, the Scalys were an obvious choice, I managed to get one of the originals, and the two from the second set, I painted all the scales in a colour suitable for Slaanesh.
I found some models in the Mordheim range, including the two Dregs,, and the third model was made from the plastics boxset, with a head from the Chaos mutation sprue.
I still have another 18 to go, but hopefully I can get them finished before the end of the year, and have another army completed, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
I like these very much and really appreciate seeing old models too!
ReplyDeleteOriginal Necromunda was so cool.... the current edition is very nice, but I feel just lacks the charm of the original with it's hand sculpted mini designs (As do most CAD minis imo).
Thank you Dai, I was lucky that I still had the muties, but the rest I had to source at the time, back around 2006 so only managed to find a few first edition Necro models.
DeleteSome of the new concepts I like, others less so, and I think the 3D sculpts lack the soul of the earlier models.
These are awesome dude! Love the me some muties!
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, IU wanted to go the metal route for the most part, not like the plastic route GW showed in the codex, and the Muties were an obvious starting point for me ! LOL
DeleteThey all look good retaining all their individual-ness (if that's a word). I mostly like the fsct that you've gleaned them from so many different sources, with a few conversion thrown in too for good measure.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, as the mutants are considered as the lowest, and their equipment is very ragtag I wanted the unit to have a very dishevelled look to it, also I thought that as they have the worst equipment, they probably do a lot of looting to get better stuff, and this will show more when I show some of the other models I've got.
DeleteNice work on those, Dave! I especially like that you were able to switch out the mounted legs with some zombie legs. Nice touch! Have you played a lot of Necromunda? I always wanted to play the original game, but couldn't get ahold of it back in the day. When the more recent edition came out, I tried it, but the rules were a freakin mess, so I gave up. Maybe someday I will return, using some simpler rules. There are definitely a lot of skirmish rules out there to choose from!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it only required a little bit of green stuff to make the zombie, Mordheim legs work, and also allowed me to add some resemblance of weight to the flamer guy. I played a lot of first edition Necromunda, where I had a 5 person Spyrer gang, one of my Malcadon's was a real beast ! LOL I haven't played the new version, so have no idea on the new rules, but as you say there is so many rules available now, it's a good time to pick and choose what rules and models you want to use.
DeleteGreat work, Dave!
ReplyDeleteI especially like the mutie conversions, always loved their background in GorkaMorka. If I remember correctly, they have the same origin as the Digganobz, but were mutated by the crash of the Space Hulk because they didn't find shelter in the Necron pyramids.
Thank you Snapfit, the Muties in GorkaMorka were very cool, they were hinted at being Space Marines with their names and weaponry, and was often talked about at GW HQ but it was never publicised through the mainstream. Good spot on the Necron Pyramids, there were managers who didn't twig that connection, or that the Pyramids were sunken Blackstone Fortresses ! LOL
DeleteVery interesting, didn't know about their connections to Space Marines. Makes them even cooler! :D
DeleteIf I recall corectly they were orbiting the planet, and were hit by the meteorite ans sent plummeting to the surface, and because of the contact were subjected to a large dose of the radiation.
DeleteInspiring work! Oh, my, what a bunch of cool guys!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, just because they are the cheapest unit you could field shouldn't mean they have less character ! LOL
Deletenice work Dave! Not a GW fan but of excellent painting I sure am - these count! Kudos!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark, I know not everyone is a fan of GW, but appreciating the work is just as important, cheers mate.
DeleteAll nicely done, Dave! :-) Sorry about the delay in leaving a comment - I thought I'd left one on an earlier occasion, but apparently not!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, no worries at all, I think there is another problem with Blogger at the moment, as I can no longer see the tool bar to change things, it has stopped sending me notifications when people leave a comment, and also deleted several of your previous comments, and one of Azazael's, that or someone's hacked my Blogger account !
DeleteA 30-strong unit of any miniatures is a truly dauting prospect, imho - just look at me with my 15mm FoW Germans LOL!! So my hats off to you for progressing through these mutants and weirdlings, Dave. I especially like the leg swaps you did as that gives the figs a lumbering look which really ties in with their look. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, it used to be that I would always go for small units or gangs, as my painting was slow at best, but over the years I changed to what was most characterful, luckily I've increased the speed I can paint ! LOL The legs were a good find, and saved having to sculpt them, and as you say they add to the look of the models.
DeleteUnusual (for me!) and splendid figures here, cracking job!
ReplyDeleteThank you Phil, indeed a world apart from your majestic historical's.
DeleteGreat work on all of these older models, Dave! You've really been doing a great job of staying focused and finishing armies this year. That is not easy to do. I know I have a tendency to bounce around from different projects and not be as focused as I would like.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, where I can I try to use challenges to help get through some parts, which helped on these guys, as they have been sat on my desk since I finished the traitor guard back in May ! LOL
DeleteLove 'em all, Dave, and it's great seeing the older minis! Well done on ploughing through your army without getting distracted by other figures, I wish I could be as focused as you LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, I've been stuck on these since May, they are at the front of the desk, but just couldn't find the entusiasm to tackle them, luckily the challenge helped, although I really need to crack on with the rest ! LOL
