THE HARDEST UNIT

Now I don't mean in the sense of gaming, but this was the hardest unit to complete, the models come from the the 5 th edition core game set, and were described as chosen, although there was no entry in the subsequent codex for Chosen. I shall use them as possessed models, with all the mutations, and warped armour.

So why were they hardest to do, well it wasn't the fact that they were plug in models, or the large undercuts that were a result of their design, or even the amount of detail on them as I enjoy a challenge, but the fact that the detail was so shallow, to combat it as best as possible I hand undercoated using as thin a paint as possible, also undercoating in the base colour rather than my normal black, to keep the number of layers of paint as low as possible.

I must have tried to get these painted 6 times and every time got frustrated, and put them to the side again, but I'm calling them done, even though I could probably spend another year trying to find the details. Next time I will have the last of the Emperor's Children posts with the flyers, then I might have a Star Wars post, before trying to finish another army, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  2. Wow I am "SOOOO" far behind with your posts mate! Needless to say you've done a cracking job on all the Emperors Children models you've shown, and some wonderful conversions too, they are very pink, but I like them 😉.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, no worries on the posts, as I read on your blog, how short time was, and technology was holding you back. Pink can be one of those colours, you either like or hate, I'll just say I got used to ! LOL

  3. Wonderful stuff, Dave. Excellent pink - one of my least fave colours to paint personally, and all that detail you've picked out too. I think that's why I steer clear of GW stuff these days - as you say, you could spend years working out all different details on them.

    1. Thank you Simon, before this army I'd barely used pink, so it took some getting used to painting. I don't mind the details, just as long as they're crisp, and not so shallow that a brush stroke can hide ! LOL

  4. Those are outstanding. I don't think I've seen these models in Emperor's Children colours before, I have to say it's quite an original work. Cool job!

    1. Thank you Suber, indeed I've really only seen red and gold, or black and gold for the most part, but as they were chaos, I thought why not ! LOL

    1. Thank you Iain, I'm certainly glad to finally have them off my desk, creating a bit of space, for other long forgotten projects ! LOL

  6. They look nonethe worse for having shallow detailing, oldr figures tend to have the same problems, but I'm surprised at GW figures having this problem. You've done a great job on them even so and they make great shock troops with that pink !

    1. Thank you Joe, do remember some of the old models with the same problem, as these didn't stay in the range, it could be the tooling of the mould wasn't as defined as it should be, definitely a shock and awe effect with the paint ! LOL

  8. Nicely done again, Dave, they scream "Slaanesh!" with that vivid pink shade. Shallow details are an absolute pain in the arse.

  9. Pink and ready to kill in the name of some disgusting fetish or another. Like em though, good stuff mate.

Had the same models when that set came out. No idea what happened to them though. Too much flippin "GW" details to have to paint. LOL

    1. Thank you Dai, it's not an army you could easily lose or get left behind on a table ! LOL
Agree on the details, shame you don't know where they are, as they seem to sell well on Ebay.

Crikey, Dave, I thought I was the only person who undercoated by hand these days! They've come out really well mind you and I've got quite used to the pink now! Bet you're pleased you've got them done! :-)

    1. Depending on the model, I will often hand undercoat, and quite often in the base colour instead of black, it's a handy tool in the arsenal. Very pleased to see the back of this unit, instead of sitting on my desk with their accusing looks ! LOL One more pink post John, then I'll have a palette change.

  11. I think they look great and your choice to make them Possessed is perfect in my eyes. They certainly look like they could be some of the toughest units on the battlefield to me!

    1. Thank you Jeff, with all their mutations it seemed the logical choice. We'll have to see how well they do on the battlefield.
