Having a break from all the pink and black of my Emperors Children Army, I decided to return to my first army, my Night Hawk chapter of Space Marines, I've had this army for many years, but keep updating ideas and how to paint them, so have never really finished them, especially as I had this crazy idea of building the entire chapter ! It's okay I have a psych evaluation coming up soon ! LOL
One of the company's will be entirely mounted on Land Speeders, so far I have the start of 8 squadrons and command group in the works, some of these parts came from my friends, who cleared out their bits boxes when I first had mt accident, to give me something to do ! What legends !
First today is a standard scout speeder, which I bought and never really found the time to paint, this is a standard model, but will have a modified sensor array and aerial as they broke off and were lost in the move.
Next is one of my modified speeders, I like the basic model, but always felt it looked a bit like a dodgem car, and fancied a sleeker version as well as some of the standard ones.
That's it for this post, so until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave
Nice work Dave, I ran a an army with 9 speeders in it back in 5th ed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, always found they were an underrated option, and why should only Dark Angels have the option to field so many. I have restricted my force in compensation by removing all tanks and terminators to balance it out . Sounds like a cool force you had, what chapter was it ?
DeleteIt was built as a tournament Dave & was Salamanders, the speeders where fitted out with a combination of multi-meltas & heavy flamers which thanks to Vulkin's special rule were all twin-linked.
DeleteI wasn't always a nice guy who makes movies you know, as back in the day I was quite a power gamer to my shame :(
Hope you didn't trip over your beard going to tournaments ! LOL
DeleteIt's always interesting how players develop, and even though you may have had that bump along the way, what you put out now is exceptional.
Always went for themed armies rather than what was the most competitive as the background was just as important for me as the gaming
Lol no managed to stay on my feet just about, I did however redeem myself in later times by going to tournaments to win best painted instead of trying to win them :)
Delete40K is a fab background its just a pity GW are such a money driven company that will rewrite fluff at the drop of a hat for sales.
Thanks for the complement Dave, I do try :)
Always enjoyed trying for best painted, and made the first cut several times, but never won, even picked up a couple of most sporting points along the way, and had some truly fun games on the bottom tables, a really memorable one against a speed Freak list with my Dark Eldar.
DeleteCan't disagree with any of your statement on GW ! LOL
WhilstI'm no afficianado of WH40k et al, I am very impressed with the Scout Speeder and its sleeker version.
ReplyDeletePainting is spot on and I do like the sand finish more than the grey (I thibk I may have an aversion to grey !)
Painting up an entire chapter is always a wonderfully ambitious and good luck with it!
Thank you Joe, the bone scheme is for my scouts and the black/blue for the main marines. Partly due to the background, scouts are fledglings so wanted an egg sort of colour, and the black/blue as the marines are called Night Hawks, so wanted a night sky type colour.
DeleteIt's definitely a long term project, and my chapter only has six companies which helps lessen down the number of models required
So cool Dave.
ReplyDeleteThank you Michael, glad you liked them. Should have something large scale to show next time
DeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you John
DeleteLovely looking pair of speeders!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, lots more to come I’m afraid ! lol

ReplyDeleteThe Scout Speeder was always a great looking model. Just wish the Scouts themselves didn't look so mongoloid-ish. :/
ReplyDeleteLiking your colour schemes mate.
Thank you Dai , have to agree about the plastic scouts, the faces are pretty awful, the metal ones before we’re much better
DeleteCouldn't agree more. With all the lovely new Primaris sculpts released, you'd think they'd re-sculpt the scouts already.
DeleteIndeed it was probably a new sculpter, and GW tend to higher computer sculptors than train traditional sculptors to use the computer software
DeleteI like the sleeker model a lot, it's got that bit of a Cyberpunk flair to it. Marvelous work on both of them.
ReplyDeleteThank you Wouter, sometimes I find GW make the imperial models a bit too clunky in my opinion
