This post could be called Wookie Wonderland, as I've finished the squad that came in the starter box that I got for Christmas. As I already had quite a few for my Empire gaming, I decided to paint these up for Clone Wars instead, as the weapons and look is more fitting for that time period. Below is a reference picture I found for colouration of the Wookie's fur, as I didn't want just a plain brown, giving each more character.
I used six out of the seven color schemes and gave the Wookie's a variety of weapons, the basing is the standard colors I use for Clone Wars models.
Pleased with how they turned out, and have enough heads and arms that if the mood takes me I could make another six Wookie's if I make legs and bodies ! LOL That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave

How dare you post a family photo of mine on here, Dave!!! In all seriousness, it is a pretty funny picture seeing all those wookies just hanging out. Doing some photo referencing really paid off as there's great variety on the fur but they also look cohesive too. You're on a roll with all of these squads and I can't imagine what you've got up your sleeve next!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, LOL I would have said it was the many moods of me ! LOL I believe it was a promo shot from Revenge of the Sith, to show some of the different looks that they had, I found the movie still had less variation as it turned out that in a lot of scenes it was the same couple of Wookie's repeated, way to kill the illusion ! LOL Next is the roundup for Paint What you got, then it could be more Night Hawks or a surprise, depends which is finished first ! LOL
Deletethese look so cool. i always have trouble painting browns and then highlighting them. i guess im afraid of overdoing it with the shade/highlights.
ReplyDeletenot sure if they ever made one but since Legion figures are nicely made plastic, you should convert one and make a wookie jedi.
like with my MotU miniatures if i can find a way to make obscure characters i'll do it because in my mind it'll make the table look more interesting.
Thank you Mr. Martin, I know what you mean with the shade and highlights, sometimes you need to have a deeper contrast especially at this scale, and also avoid straight lines between the different colors as this makes it unnatural, so pit a bit of each highlight into the other color area. There is a couple of Wookie Jedi in some series, and have seen 3D prints of these in the past, did an obscure character Wookie a while back Chalmun, the Wookie who owns the cantina at Mos Eisley, you can see him here https://wargamesculptorsblog.blogspot.com/2024/09/baby-steps.html
DeleteHere's his original post with some more obscure characters I did at the time https://wargamesculptorsblog.blogspot.com/2020/12/one-more-post-before-christmas.html#comment-form
DeleteReally cool! I've painted maybe a couple of Chewbaccas and I can relate to the problems of painting such kind of fur! You really did it great, Ilove how they look!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, that was my first experience of the problem to ! LOL Easier to practice this on the big guys, in case I ever paint some Ewoks ! LOL
DeleteOnly a dedicated Star Wars fan would go so far as to search for a colour guide on Wookie fur, Dave. LOL!! That shows some serious dedication - and its clearly paid out as the paint-jobs really stand out from one another as you planned. Top stuff.
