ANOTHER DISTRACTION

Yes I got distracted again finishing off another piece for my Dark Eldar, this time it's a vehicle of my creation. In the first codex there was a scenario for a Slave Raid, cool idea I thought, but the vehicles are not big enough to put slaves on I thought, so why not make a Slave Raider, big enough to carry the troops, and also a place to keep the slaves. It ended up so big that I had space for more weapons on the prow ! LOL Some may say it's now a Ravager, so in game terms you could claim it's a raider, and only use one Dark Lance, and have the transport facility, or claim it was a ravager and drop the transport element, or as I will be using it at home, have all the elements and pay the extra points for it. I have included parts from the newer kits, to help finish it off, like chain snares, for trapping slaves, and some of the trophies as well.

It was made with the old Raider kit, and some plasticard, and a little bit of mesh, so you can see what the slaves are up to. I also included a slave master as seen here taking a spirit stone from an Eldar captive.

Inside the cell I used the slaves from Asdrubael Vect's raider, but these were the GW head office version which had less clothing, and were never made available to buy.

This now solves the problem of what my Trueborn will ride on, when they are finished, now back to painting Zombies, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Nice bit of conversion work there Dave, (though I sadly have no idea what the original kits looked like, so I'll take you word for it πŸ˜‰). I think they need to empty out the slaves out a bit more often though as that one chap seems to have been in the pen for a while! πŸ˜‚

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, the basic raider is the ones I posted in the Kabal posting, so a lot narrower ! LOL Dark Eldar are not renowned for being very hygienic ! LOL He may be parts for the Heamonculus to experiment with ! LOL

  2. I always like three-dimensional models, Dave, where you open up a bit of the vehicle/scenery and inside is a little vignette or some such. Great work, and probably a story or two to be told about that poor skeletal corpse in the cell, LOL!!!

    1. Thank you Simon, vehicles or scenery with hidden details, are always fun to do, it gives a little surprise for the viewer ! LOL Indeed there probably is, but I should really get on with my Zombies ! LOL

  3. Oh no! It looks like they have captured Betty and DeeDee! Nice work on your kit bash, I would've thought it was another manufactured piece! It's pretty cool that it gives you a nice game option as well.

    1. Thank you Brian, don't tell Matt ! LOL that is high praise indeed that you thought it was a manufactured piece. Getting multiple uses makes financial sense, plus it meant I had one less Raider to purchase ! LOL

    2. I do wonder what he's going to say when he finds out two of his Muppets are missing, and without any clothes!

  5. Oh, WOW! That's the way it's done! I love the way you approached the issue and how you produced such a beast. Awesome work!

    1. Thank you Suber, it evolved in a very organic way, with how much space did I need for the pen, then enough space for the prow to line up properly, then fill in the gaps ! LOL

  6. That looks cracking Dave! Love the modifications and the addition of some captives. I keep trying to grab a cheap one of these for my Retro Scifi games.

    1. Thank you Simon, wanted the whole piece to be full of stories. They are getting scarce, and starting to go for silly money now.

  7. Holy crap, Dave, that thing looks huge! Excellent conversion work and the painting is superb, the dark green and bone is such a good combo. Also, why do you have Betty and DeeDee in there? :-)

  8. Thank you Matt, it's about the width of two and a half standard Raiders, and a little bit longer, so a bit of a beast ! LOL As for DeeDee and Betty, they've been secretly moonlighting in the 40K realm, but didn't know how to tell you ! ROFL

  9. That is an impressive ship indeed. Great job! I can see how it’s proved to be a distraction bc it’s such a neat project. πŸ˜€
Those poor women are in awful fix. One says to the other “this is all your fault! You wanted to go to beach. Now look at us. “

    1. Thank you Stewart, I started this creation during codex 1, and it's taking me to now, to actually get it finished, it became the distraction, as I wanted to get it finished, and thought I'd seize my enthusiasm to get it done.
Indeed ! LOL What you can't see is the one led down has broken off a spike, and is using it to pick her cuffs, this great little detail is on the original sculpt, whereas the other lady, seems more worried about her hair ! LOL

  10. Another superb conversion, which looks huge and the detail is great too, especially the 'internal' pieces.

    1. Thank you Joe, it's not the biggest vehicle I've made for this army, but certainly ranks a close second ! LOL Wanted the whole piece to be full of stories, to get the viewer engaged.

  11. This is a great idea for a vehicle, Dave! I'm not very steeped in the lore of 40k but I seem to remember Dark Eldar being big-time slavers. If that is true, it makes sense because I can't imagine there as many Dark Eldar alive as say humans or orks. Somebody's gotta do some work to keep the civilization going :) Having actual captives on board is a great touch as well!

    1. Thank you Jeff, they are indeed big time slavers, I guess they need somebody to do the work ! LOL Plus with all the experiments the flesh cult do, you need unwilling participants, or you'd have to send your own people, which as you say are in short supply. I thought an added bit of storytelling wouldn't go amiss on this one.

  12. Very cool thematic rebuild of the Raider/Ravager, Dave. I always really liked models that you can open up the hatches and such on, much like Blaxkleric and you've done a great job on this one! :)

    1. Thank you Azazael, I totally agree on models with those hidden gems that you can reveal, just adds so much more to a model, and it was a fun one to build, need to build some like this for the Star Wars project.

  13. That's more like it! GW seems to do that with a lot of it's vehicle designs and so descriptions mention one function too many that the tiny things (Rhinos anyone?) could barely be able to actually do!
That poor Guardian is going to get tortured to death with no hope of an afterlife locked inside a garnet or cubit zirconium or some such... Not sure if that's so bad an ending? LOL

    1. Thank you Dai, it is very common with them, but left to us as modellers to realise what they mention ! LOL If you melt the 10 space marines, they will fit inside the rhino ! LOL
Indeed I wouldn't like his chances, ah well he can always become Slaanesh's plaything when they're done ! LOL
