NOT WHAT IT WAS DESIGNED FOR !

Some of you may remember my little tutorial on doing Marble, if not you can find it at the bottom of this Post and works well on big surfaces, but not so well on small ones. So I've been looking for an alternative, partly luck, partly brain fart I thought what about contrast paint, to do the faded grey in the background, and surprisingly it worked ! Here is a step by step guide on how I did it :

Step 1 base colour the statue in black.

Step 2 apply white contrast in areas you want the background colour, making sure to leave areas of pure black.

Step 3 add white fracture lines on the pure black areas.

Step 4 add black fracture lines on the muted grey areas.

Step 5 cover the statue in gloss varnish, to complete the effect.

So why did I need this, well the building I'm currently working on has 4 small statues on, which I'm trying to finish for SOS, that's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

YOU'VE RUINED IT !

Most of the GW building kits come with ruined pieces, for me personally I'd like a complete building every now and then, but it does mean leaving these ruined sections to build a ruined building as well. All these pieces came from a now OOP kit which I can't remember the name of, but had 4 small statues on flying buttresses which I still need to finish.

As you can see I've gone for a very old look with all the metal sections heavily rusted, and rust trails running down the concrete and plaster sections.

Above are front and back shots of all 3 sections, and I've added some little details here and there.

Above is a shot of my sniper Kroot using the ruin for cover, that's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

WAGONS HO !

So between the heat and some jobs that needing doing, I haven't got as much done this week as I would like, but I have achieved one thing. When I showed my Kroot Great Knarloc, I mentioned I wished I'd got a couple more while they were available, so I've been keeping an eye out for some anywhere I could, thankfully I managed to find the baggage version recently, and got it painted this week, as the pictures below will show.

Now where did I manage to find this model, Ebay, Etsy ? Well the Forgeworld aficionado's of you will probably already have guessed I made it, as I've been really struggling to locate one, and have now already started the third one I wanted, the one thing the heat helped with was curing times of the greenstuff ! LOL

So that's this weeks PB&J post, and if you don't understand this check out Stewart's latest post, as he explains it better than I could tllw.blogspot it's a very funny read, as are the comments, but you may also want to check out his Vikings project, and his newly started Star Trek fleet models he's working on. So that's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

THE ROOF, THE ROOF IS ON FIRE

Technically mine isn't but there is the one scene during a New Hope, where the garage roof at the Lars Farm is, hence the title. Yes I have finished another piece that I started for last years challenge, before getting distracted, The Lars Farm garage roof, for those of you that remember it started life as a smoke alarm, before I chopped and changed it around to resemble the Garage roof.

As you can see from the bottom picture I've also put in yellow lenses so when I get round to adding a LED strip I can light it up for games, picture was taken using the torch on my phone for this. So that's all for this brief post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

GROUND CONTROL TO MAJOR TOM

During the "Paint What You Got Challenge" I ran at the beginning of the year I mentioned I was lucky enough to get two LAAT patrol transports and the first one I painted during that challenge, the second one I wanted to convert into a landed version, this meant bending the bottom front wings, and also swinging the back ramps back and out, now I spent a long time stressing about whether the conversion would take the weight of the ship, but with the latest challenge running, decided to just get on with it and go with minimal reinforcement which turned out to be enough to support the weight.

I've made sure to include a shot with models for scale purpose, as I forgot when I did the first one, that's all for this post so until next time stay safe and have fun !

STARTING POINT

Some of you may remember last years challenge I started the underground entrance from Lars Farm, but then got distracted by Jabba's palace, well I'm happy to say I've got the master moulded and run off a cast, I will be adding these to my store shortly. It's cast hollow so you can put interior pieces in if you want, and also makes it cheaper than a solid cast.

Now some of you may be saying you can get MDF or 3D prints of these, and you'd be right, the difference with this one, is the texture is already done for you. Now why is this a starting point you may be wondering, it's because I now want to detail it up to look closer to the one in the films and series, so you will probably be seeing this again once detailed, unless I get distracted ! LOL

That's all for this time, so until net time stay safe and have fun !

JUST DROPPING IN

Another month and another challenge, this one being the Season of Scenery, which I run and runs for 2 months, as we all know scenery can take a time, hence the length of the challenge.

For my first piece I've gone for an Imperial Dropship that first appeared in season 2 of "The Mandolorian" episode 6 where the Imperial troops ambush Mando, Boba and Fennec using two of the dropships, now originally I liked the craft, but as this was the first time we'd seen one which was after the time period I was gaming in, I'd dismissed getting one, that was until the series Obi Wan aired and had several in there as well which is set before the time period I'm gaming in.

The model is a 3D print I got off of Ebay, as prints go it was good quality for the size of the piece. It has an interior for the holding bay, now the markings on the outside aren't 100 % accurate to the on screen shots, but close enough for me. For the painting I've kept the weathering minimal. Model wise you can fit 8 models inside, but gaming wise, I would think it would hold 20 models at least going by the episode.

It's funny I used to avoid painting vehicles, but with learning more with weathering, I'm happy to have more of a go now ! LOL

The other participants for this years challenge are so far as follows :

https://justneedsvarnish.wordpress.com/ John has joined in again this year, look forward to seeing what he chooses to do.

https://pmpainting.blogspot.com/ Matt has already posted up his first entry a Dragon Plant.

https://rantingsfromunderthewargamestable.wordpress.com/ Roger has returned to the challenge, and is already looking forward to some more MDF scenery.

http://angrypiper.com/ Keith is planning to build his DS9 model and paint, what a beast of a project, and I'm so jealous he has one.

https://kuribospainting.com/ Jeff has said if he can find time he'll try and join in, but he is working on his latest display piece.

https://markamorin.com/ Mark has joined in again this year, but has stated he won't be doing a whole city this time, time will tell ! LOL

https://phillipislandgamingsociety392176732.wordpress.com/ Dave has decided to join in this year as well, as he has a lot of scenery that needs doing, and from his recent posts it could be in multiple genres.

Ther is still plenty of time to join in if you want as the closing date isn't until the 31 st of August.

That's all for this post so until next time stay safe and have fun !
