Or "Judge NOT" in my case, as last year was the first time I failed a challenge, and then went on a lengthy sabbatical, here's hoping this year goes a lot better. So what have I got planned well I'm aiming a lot smaller for a start, and something I haven't done anything for since 2022 Judge Dredd, well actually a big villain Sabbat
In the 2000 AD universe, Sabbat the Necromagus is a powerful, time-traveling necromancer and the main antagonist of the iconic 1992 Judge Dredd crossover epic, "Judgement Day" .The "Judgement Day" Saga The Catastrophe: Sabbat traveled to the year 2114 and resurrected billions of dead corpses worldwide, triggering a global zombie apocalypse. The Destruction: Several mega-cities were completely overrun, forcing the Judges to use nukes to destroy cities and prevent the zombie army from growing further. The Team-Up: Judge Dredd teamed up with Johnny Alpha, a mutant bounty hunter from the Strontium Dog series, to track Sabbat across dimensions and eventually defeat him. Sabbat's head was severed, kept alive atop a lodestone, and taken to Mega-City One for imprisonment. The Legacy: The crossover is widely celebrated as one of Dredd's darkest, most thrilling, and action-packed storylines.
now depending on the artist he had several looks, here are some of my favourites.
Now there was a model produced by Mongoose, when they had the licence, but I never had the budget to get it at the time, and I've found very little on Ebay, or Etsy.
When Warlord had the licence they never released a model, even though they had rules for him, plus their model range was a different scale to my Foundry models that I have, so why him, why now, well I can use any of my modern day zombies with him, for some large scale battles of Dredd, which will be a lot quicker than building a robot army, for the robot wars, or hundreds of Judges for the Cal Wars, and so on. So what will I be basing my model on, a frame and greenstuff, I might see if I have a suitable head to speed things up ! LOL if any one else wants to take part in Forgotten Heroes, go over to Jez's site to register and check out the rules, when he posts them up carrioncrowsbuffet
That's all from me today, so until next time stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave

I'm looking forward to seeing how he turns out. An excellent choice
ReplyDeleteThank you misterc, hopefully I can choose the right combination.
DeleteOooo! Very interesting!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michal, hopefully the model will be interesting too ! LOL
DeleteSabbat is an excellent choice, Dave - though that pic of the Mongoose Publishing version brought back some awful memories of just how much money I lost on their ruddy Judge Dredd Kickstarter. LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, sorry for the bad memories on the kickstarter, I was doing some sculpting for them at the time, and lost a lot in the transfer at the time as well ! LOL
DeleteCool choice mate, a very creep character indeed, I'm sure you can do a much better job that that rather lack lustre Mongoose figure!
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, I wanted to do some large scale Dredd battles, and this one would allow using other zombie models to fill out the numbers ! LOL
DeleteWell, this one should be interesting - seems like a Dave Sculpt Session might be forthcoming!
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, hopefully I can squeeze in a couple ! LOL
DeleteVery cool, looking forward to see what you manage to whip up with this one!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, I think I'm going to go with faces all over the cloak like in the first picture, as I only have to paint and sculpt them once unlike a comic book artist ! LOL
DeletePretty badass model you picked!
ReplyDeleteI regret Judge Dredd was never popular in Poland - too bad, cuz I got some comic books about it and it's totally badass!
Looking forward to see what it turns out!
Thank you demi_morgana, it took a long time for Dredd to get traction in the states as well, which is probably why they haven't got the movies right yet ! LOL
DeleteMe too ! LOL
I'm not all that well up on 2000AD characters but it will be good to see how you get on! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you John, there are so many characters in Judge Dredd alone, then add in all the other stories, it's endless ! LOL
DeleteNot a Dredd character I'm familiar with. (Probably cos I was busy being a right miscreant around '92.)
ReplyDeleteLove that dark artwork though (Looks Simon Bisley?), so looking forward to seeing your take on the character.
Might join this challenge, but I'm at a loss for what to try to create....
Thank you Dai, I think this was the last big Dredd story I read, and was costly as I needed both 2000ad and the Megazine to get the full story ! LOL Now that sounds like a story to hear ! LOL
DeleteThey had a lot of artists for the story, so it wouldn't surprise me if he was one of them.
I often have that problem, and with Star Wars I'm on characters with no name, or no screen time ! LOL
Question - Do I "have" to convert, kit-bash or scratch-build my choice of character? Or can I just paint a LONG forgotten sculpt that's languished in my bits box of a very little known character?
DeleteJez is the aficionado on the rules, but from what I read you can paint a model to be a different character, if converting is not your thing, so you could paint a flash, as reverse flash as a for instance for any rules clarifications chat to Jez on https://carrioncrowsbuffet.wordpress.com/ hope this helps mate.
DeleteHrm.... Some more research needed then. Thanks Dave.
DeleteYou are most welcome mate.
DeleteI could easily be convinced that Sabbat is just a Dark Eldar, especially considering a couple of Dark Eldar have those lovely skin cloaks, if I remember right! In all seriousness, this was really interesting and I wouldn't have expected Dredd to face off against someone like this. Its a real mixture of genres in many ways.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, yes favourite apparel of the Haemonculus skin ! LOL You're right, I think they wanted a new direction for Dredd, as it could all too easily become a rinse and repeat storyline for a comic book character, I guess it was only a matter of time before they had zombies, as they'd covered flesh golems, werewolves, and vampires before ! LOL As I recall he even had a teamup with Batman
