ON TARGET

Sadly were not talking my forgotten heroes entry, as I've managed no sculpting this week, but I've managed to paint a couple of units for my Night Hawks, so not a total loss. The first unit is a squad of Scout snipers, I've painted them as standard scouts not veterans for this unit. The first five models are all metal miniatures, the two on the right are standard models, the other three are conversions.

The next five are the plastic snipers that GW have now discontinued.

I've also managed to paint a unit of five devastators, that were the old plastic, and metal kit, which can unbalance the models quite easily, I've done them as fifth company but they still need their squad number added.

For fun I thought I would google my chapter and this is what GW has to say:

The Night Hawks is a Loyalist Space Marine Chapter of unknown Founding and origin. Almost nothing is known about this Chapter in Imperial records other than its participation in the Angarius Incursion of the late 41st Millennium.

Chapter History

Notable Campaigns

Angarius Incursion (Unknown Date.M41) - The Night Hawks were part of a joint Imperial strike force that helped to put down a rebellion against the Emperor on the Agri-World of Angarius. The Night Hawks' Strike Cruiser Ebony Talon accompanied this task force. Two regiments of the Imperial Guard's Pyran Dragoons were assigned to subdue the locals and detain several key officials. With an increasingly hostile population to deal with, the Imperials soon became embroiled in a bitter war with the people of Angarius. In one notable incident, several platoons of the Pyran Dragoons' 18th Battalion attempted to capture one of the local leaders but soon found their position encircled by the Angarian rebels, effectively cutting them off from friendly forces. As the Imperials attempted to mount a rescue mission, the Night Hawks flew continuous sorties throughout the night with their Land Speeder Typhoons, pounding the enemy positions mercilessly with deadly salvos of Typhoon missiles. With the assistance of the Night Hawks, the rebels were driven back from the Dragoons' position. The Night Hawks kept up their relentless barrage, which forced the rebels to withdraw their forces in the face of such a furious assault.

Chapter Fleet

Ebony Talon (Strike Cruiser) - The Ebony Talon was the Strike Cruiser of the Night Hawks present in the Angarius Incursion.

Chapter Appearance

Chapter Colours

The Night Hawks' Chapter colours are not listed in current Imperial records.

Chapter Badge

The Night Hawks' Chapter badge is not listed in current Imperial records.

Do I know why they have included this ? Yes my friend Carl wrote the background text for many of the items in the Epic Armageddon rulebook, and included my chapter, and his own the Sand Jackals, unfortunately someone spotted his and changed it for a more well known chapter, but they missed mine ! LOL They could have just looked up when my army was featured in White Dwarf 231 to fill in some of the blanks ! LOL

I've managed to see a Doctor this week about my hand, and are now starting lots of tests to see if we can get to the route of the problem, he has three possibilities at the moment, a new symptom of Fibromyalgia, nerve damage, or neurological, I'm thinking it's the second one as on one of the reflex tests, it sent shooting pains down from my elbow, right to my fingers, but will have to see what the tests show, and hopefully return to sculpting. That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

    1. Thank you John, I think you are in at least double figures for being the first to comment ! LOL As for the hand, not banking on any miracles, but doing exercise every day, and trying to train my hand to adjust. I thought you might appreciate a good camo pattern, as you do many yourself.

    1. Thank you Suber, Loved the updated scout models when they first came out in metal, was less keen on the bikers they did, and the plastics were a bit hit and miss, the snipers were better, but limited in pose.

  3. Nice job and kinda funny about the GW history.
Good luck with your hand. That must be a real pain in the…well the hand I’ll guess. 😀

    1. Thank you Stewart, luckily for me, I have all the back history, and some fun short stories that friends wrote for me ! LOL
It's frustrating, the pain is a lot less than what I endure on a normal day elsewhere in my body, but the lack of control in my hand is causing problems.

  4. Getting the tests done does not sound fun. I hope you're feeling a bit better now and that you're able to get to the bottom of what's been bothering you too.

Very nice work on these latest marines as well. For me, I have bad memories of assembling minis that were a mix of plastic and metal. I want to say the worst I worked with were Orks with metal rokkits on their backs. I'm not sure sure which is worse plastic and metal combined on a miniature or Finecast. Now that is a real race to the bottom! :)

    1. Thank you Jeff, tests are a normal part of life for me so used to them, just trying to find work arounds at the moment incase I get the normal response of you'll just have to live with it ! LOL
When I started in the hobby it was all metal, then plastic parts got added, then the bulk was plastic with metal add ons, then went to all plastic, so was used to pinning everything, so didn't have too many problems, thankfully didn't get many finecast, as I found them to be awful, they got better over time, but wasn't a medium I wanted to purchase ! LOL

    1. Thank you Roger, I have a lot more background than GW do ! LOL But not really surprising as I've been working on this chapter for longer than they've known of it ! LOL As for the test I'll probably just wing it like normal ! LOL

  6. The scouts look great, I especially like the camouflage patterns. Really cool that your chapter became part of the canon, that's a real achievement!
I hope you'll soon find out what the cause of your hand pain is and find a solution for it.

    1. Thank you snapfit, trying to keep pushing on my camo patterns, after seeing so many other bloggers doing fantastic work. I have my friend Carl to thank for that as even getting them featured in White Dwarf didn't get them any recognition ! LOL
I hope so too, and it is treatable, not another learn to live with it scenario ! LOL

  7. Blimey..!! You may not have done any sculpting, Dave. But those space marines and scouts look the business. I particularly like the metal scouts - there's something about their 'chunk' I just adore - and your paintjobs have done them proud too.

    1. Thank you Simon, these have been on the desk for a few weeks now, slowly ploding away at them as I try to sculpt ! LOL Was a big fan of the metal scouts, and used them in many conversions before the plastics came out, so still more to come yet ! LOL

  8. Ah the stunty boys, I've gotten so used to the modern space marines that I thought these were squats or halflings for a split second! Good luck with your hand, glad that it's at least going down a troubleshooting path instead of just an unknown.

    1. Thank you SD, personally I haven't liked the Primaris ones since release, and there was no way I was relacing my large collection of originals ! LOL Very used to being an unknown factor, at this rate I could probably have a condition named after me ! LOL

  9. Lovely work on those Marines, I have to confess that my knowledge of 40K pretty much stops with 2nd edition, but it's awesome that you got your chapter written into the game.
Hope you can get back to the sculpting soon, best wishes

    1. Thank you misterc, a lot of the old history from 2nd edition has been changed, but in saying that 2nd edition changed multiple things since Rogue Trader ! LOL Was cool for the chapter to have a mention, but I have the full history.
Practicing every day, so I can hopefully get back to it full term.

  11. But as I struggle with a screaming baby, On a more serious note, those scouts look fantastic! I Have an unopened box of the plastic ones in storage and had anticipated using them for some sort of sci-fi project in the future to go with my space sharks.

I hope the tests come back with something that can at least be addressed whether by therapy or medication. Would like to hear you being on the mend for once my friend

    1. Thank you Dai, baby's can definitely take up all of our time, to the point where the only other thing you think about is sleep ! LOL But it doesn't last forever, before you know it their off to college and your wondering where the years went ! LOL
Look forward to seeing what you do with them to tie into your space sharks, was always a cool chapter.
It would be great for once, to have something that is treatable, and not another learn to live with it ! LOL
