Recently I levelled up in the game of life, and my family got me some great gifts, I had a pair of books, the next graphic novel for A.B.C. Warriors, and a book all about Stormtroopers, and their development, and variations.
I also got some models, including Dewback Rider, Scout Squad, Mando & Grogu, and a Inferno Squad. Now the last one you may know nothing about, as this is a made up Imperial unit, now you may be thinking Dave only goes for ones that appear in the movies or series, and you would be right, but I had a plan ! LOL Below is what the standard miniatures look like.
Recently you may remember I found pilot models for my AT-ST, and my AT-DP, and I've continued to look out for AT-AT pilots, having not found any, I realised that the above Inferno squad were very similar, so with a bit of conversion I could make the above into AT-AT drivers, and also TIE fighter pilots. Below is my first conversion of each.
I've then painted the first driver, to check it worked, and can be seen below.
Here is a reference picture to see if you think it looks right.
You may have noticed I haven't painted the symbols, and I'm thinking of looking for a transfer to achieve that, as it would need to be pretty small. That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave
congrats on going up a level. I hope that by now, your family is used to you cutting apart their gifts... 😁
ReplyDeleteThank you Stewart, my family are very used to me chopping about models, luckily on these it is mostly additions ! LOL
DeleteWell happy birthday, looks like it was a good one! Your conversions work great, I wouldn't have made that connection but you're right, they totally work as pilots.
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, very quiet day, which meant I had time to play with the new toys ! LOL I hadn't really looked much at the Inferno Squad, but when I was making this years list, I noticed the helmets were right for the two different pilots, so got added ! LOL
DeleteGood looking books and great pair of conversions, I'd say they were spot on, oh and Happy Birthday!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, nice to see you have managed to get your avatar back, the books are great, and the Stormtrooper has already proved useful. Great when simple conversions can do the job, rather than having to do full sculpts ! LOL
DeleteThe green stuff job looks ace, I find these fantastic
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, mostly just pipes and straps, on these, so relatively quick, hopefully I can get the rest finished soon.
DeleteNice work on the AT-AT crew, Dave! :-) Them and TIE pilots are some of my favourites from the whole setting!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, not surprised you like them both as they are effectively the same armour in different colours, apparently they ran out of budget on the costumes, so repainted the TIE pilot armour, and moved the tubes and added the shoulder pads, that are from the Snowtroopers just upside down ! LOL
DeleteHappy belated birthday, Dave! I somehow seem to forget that our birthdays fall very close to each other's though I suppose its a pleasant surprise each time I do remember or that's what I'm going to tell myself haha. I'm stunned that you got something Star Wars for your birthday. That is so uncharacteristic of you! And if you're not careful, someone in your family might get the crazy idea to get you something from Judge Dredd too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, no worries, I just remember because we share the same Birthday, There used to be 3 that I needed to remember, now I'm down to two ! LOL I know I was surprised to get Star Wars stuff for my birthday too ! LOL I've got a couple of 40K armies I'd like to finish, and then who knows maybe I'll return to the world of Dredd ! LOL
DeleteOutsstanding work on the AT-AT drivers there - I saw the painter versions earlier but didn't realise you'd converted them!
ReplyDeleteThank you Azazael, yes just a small conversion on these and the pilots as the Inferno squad are pretty close to them.
