CALL ME BOB

This post has nothing to do with the current challenge, but is instead about the evolved Mudskipper I showed a while back. The species name I've come up with is Oxymundis, so why the title, everyone knows all fish are called bob ! LOL Below are the pictures of the fully painted version.

The colour scheme came from a real Mudskipper that looks like this.

The water pods over his gills came out quite well, and I'm pleased with the overall look compared to the reference. That's all for this post, next time back to the challenge, so until then stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. The real mud-skipper looks a lot more docile than your all-action version, so of course, I like your version better !

    1. Thank you Joe, not the most aggressive species, but will compete strongly for a mate. I guess mine would be the Rambo of the fish world ! LOL

    1. Thank you Stewart, the mouth action fish make is the same as a human when you say the name Bob, so they are all looking for Bob, or called Bob, and just greeting each other ! LOL

  6. What a great concept and so well executed from sculpt to paint! I could see a unit of these easily. Bob is the bomb. Kudos Dave!

    1. Thank you Mark, had been playing with the idea of an evolved fish for a while, originally I was thinking of a deep sea Angler fish, but then thought Mudskippers have already evolved to a certain point, why not take it the step further, if he proves popular on the site, I may make some more.

I liked him when you first showed him in his sculpted form but he looks really good now with that paint job! :-) You've captured the colouration and pattern perfectly!

    1. Thank you John, I wanted a bright colour, to contrast against his monotone equipment to make him the focus, a lot of it was achieved with glazes of colour over a base colour acting like filters rather than straight paint.

  9. Nice work on the mudskipper, Bob, I mean, Dave! :) The mudskipper came out great and is a great choice for a Sci-Fi setting too. Maybe I missed something but what is Bob going to be used for or with? There's lots of things he could go with, so naturally, I'm curious!

    1. Thank you Jeff, I like how he's turned out, I've released him on the website, so others can find a use for him, for me I liked the idea of Matt's adventures with his Muppets, so I fancy building my own little band for some adventures, they will probably be mostly alien, as that would be more interesting than lots of humans ! LOL

    2. That makes sense! I think this guy could make an appearance in Stargrave pretty easily for example so I wouldn't be surprised if he finds some buyers out there.
