Some more models for Movember today, these are Beastmen. When I was looking for models for my mutant unit, I had run out of suitable models from GorkaMorka and Necromunda, and was wondering what I could use, and then thought Beastmen are a form of Mutation, a stable one but still a mutation, so I got the warband from Mordheim, as they seemed to be big on looting. The first picture are the four with face hair.
These next four have no face hair, I separated the two to make it easier for Roger when he does his round up.
All the models had conversions done to give them firearms rather than hand weapons, with the completion of these I've got 10 more mutants to do, and then this army is finished.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
Aptly titled post! Because if you're going to think of minis and goatees, it's gotta be Beastmen! Nice work on these, I don't know the minis that well or the original weapons, but looks like you've pulled off the conversions nicely! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Brian, glad you liked the title ! LOL some of the arms cam from Zombies, others are sculpts, to get the right position, and the shaman in the bottom picture on the right has a arm from a guardsman, and the mutation sprue for Chaos.
DeleteI like beastmen. Just cool aspects of WH40k that really don't get enough love imo. (ESPECIALLY sanctioned Beastmen in the Imperial Guard!)
ReplyDeleteGreat additions Dave and the added firearms look like they are part of the original sculpts and not conversions at all.
Thank you Dai, remember the really cool Broo models from Runequest, that had other animal heads, then GW's first release for beastmen was a very eclectic selection, long before they settled on the goat type. Sanctioned Beastmen were cool and would be good to see get a update.
DeleteI like these, Dave! :-) Very nice! I seem to remember Beastmen in the Epic Imperial Guard box a long time ago (I bought a box since Imperial Guardsmen made good generic 6mm sci-fi troops). Yours are spot on for mutants!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, you are spot on about the original epic Imperial Guard box having beastmen in, as they were a current part of the IG army list at the time. I shortened the legs on one, to make it seem more human on the bottom half, to add to the mutant feel of them all.
DeleteVery nice mate, I've always had a bit of a soft spot for the beastmen, and these are particularly nice renditions.
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, I think GW haven't really utilised beastmen to their full potential, but that could be said for a lot of their armies.
DeleteThey look fantastic. I have sometimes thought of a 40K Beastmen army/warband and this is exactly the kind of thing I had in mind!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, great minds obviously think alike, I am surprised that GW haven't done more models for this, either Chaos or Imperial aligned, I guess they have their reasons.
DeleteGreat work Dave, who doesn't love a goatee!
ReplyDeleteThank you Justin, I know my wife hated when I had mine ! LOL I'll probably leave it to Beastmen from now on ! LOL
DeleteIts always nice to see some classic sculpts like the Beastmen. I've never painted one myself but I remember seeing them in Warhammer Fantasy well. One thing I'm noticing with your pictures lately is that I think your camera is not focusing on the miniatures and is more focused on the terrain and background. I'm not the best at fixing this myself but it might be worth trying to adjust your focus on the camera to show off the awesome work you're doing on these minis.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, I've only ever painted a few Beastmen myself, so they were a refreshing change. Thank you for the feedback on the photography, a friend is looking out a better lens for me to help, and he often gives me advice, but I know my photography is lacking, and always striving to get better,.
DeleteThey may not have been intended to be used as muants, but they certainly fit the bill imo. Great models and a very definitive colour scheme that I like.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, I guess sometimes we can't see what's in front of us due to labels, but was glad I could see past it in this case.
