Well not me personally, as I didn't start painting RPG or wargaming figures until I was 11, but Cassian Andor, one of the main characters from Rogue One. The model comes with 3 sets of arm options, and I went for the sniper rifle, the only drawback on this is the weapon ends up across his face, small price for a cool weapon I suppose ! LOL
Next up is a Rebel officer, this is a rescaled version of one of the characters FFG did in Imperial assault, so I kept with the same colour scheme. He comes as part of the Rebel Specialist box set for Legion.
Next is a model from the Imperial Specialist box set FX-6 medical droid, I've based my colours on the one seen rebuilding Anakin Skywalker, into Darth Vader.
Both the specialist box sets, come with a astomech, the Rebels has an R5, and the Imperial has an R4, now many of you will know I've already painted lots of these droids over the years, so what to do with these 2 ? Then I remembered D-Squad from the clone wars cartoon, so here is the start of the squad U9-C4
And his buddy M5BZ
When I get the crashed escape pod, I'll add the two R2 units, then just need a WAC droid, and the colonel, and IU'll have the full D-Squad for use in my clone wars gaming.
I've also been working on making one of my pit monsters to make it look more like a Sarlaac, so far I've updated the tongue and beak, just need to add more tentacles, and it should be perfect.
That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
You have been busy Dave - all very nice indeed. I like the pit monster a lot, but all the SW stuff you have posted lately is very cool.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mark, I do enjoy my Star Wars project, and do enjoy the diversity it allows, the pit monster was built on a whim, but as this one is for me, I thought it was about time to make it closer to the actual Sarlaac
DeleteWow, these Legion miniatures are really nice. I love that Gideon Argus so much more than the Imperial Assault version. Amazing job on these as always, Dave. I have to say R5 is my favorite. Great work!
ReplyDeleteThank you Keith, They really did a great sculpt on Gideon this time round. The astromechs were fun to do, and doing them for my clone wars project, means the different scale won't be noticeable
DeleteLoving Andor and that Officer! I also didn't realise Legion characters came with options on their builds?
ReplyDeleteThe more droids the better I say. the SW setting is chock full of the blighters and so should be one's SW game tables eve if they are only eye candy!
Sarlacc is pretty darn cool too mate. Was never a fan of the beak myself when Lucas fracked with things for his "Special Editions", but yours looks spot on to the screencap.
Thank you Dai, was pleased with how they turned out, and as close as I could get to the references.
DeleteIndeed you tend to see them in almost every screen shot ! LOL want my board with enough to make it look like a scene from the movies, need to add some rules to make them more part of the game play.
Have to admit I wasn't a big fan of the beak when I first saw it, but for some younger people it's all they've ever known, just old timers like us remembering the original ! LOL
Great work again Dave, really liking the look of the pit monster ๐, how bit is it?
ReplyDeleteThank you Frank, the base has a diameter of 6" and is 2" and a half tall, once I've got all the tentacles done, I'll take a picture with the skiff and some models.
DeleteGreat Star Wars ensemble, Dave. Lovely variety of figures and palette choices. Plus some more of your own stuff on show too. Definitely living up to your nickname as the George Lucas of sci-fi wargaming ;-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, nice to have a varied palette choice in a group occasionally keeps it interesting. If only the nickname came with his bank balance ! ROFL
DeleteYay, more Star Wars stuff! As usual they all look great and the Sarlaac is coming along really well. I love how even the Empire's medical droids look evil LOL!
ReplyDeleteThank you Matt, don't worry I have some non Star Wars posts lined up for February, but also more Star Wars as well ! LOL Just need to decide how many tentacles I want to add, and position of them. A dark colour scheme can make things seem more evil, even when not ! LOL
DeleteNice minis, Dave, as always! :-) I don't know you manage to keep coming up with so many different figures (you must be managing them by spreadsheet)! I've got a bit behind with blogs but have now caught up with yours I think!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, the only spread sheet I have is in my head ! LOL I do have to occasionally look up some of the more obscure things, to double check before posting. No worries on the blog mate, just happy when people have the time.
DeleteOh, that Andor is particularly fantastic, but the droids are great too. And the Sarlacc! Oh the Sarlacc :O :O
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, Andor did throw me a few curve balls trying to match him, so glad he looks impressive, the droids are always fun to paint and match to their reference. Had the pit monster for a while now, but glad to finally bringing it in line with the Sarlaac.
DeleteGreat stuff Dave! The whole run of Rogue One Legion models are fantastic and Cassian is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping you're planning on making a little seismic charge bomb so you can place it right in that beak ๐
Thank you Ivor, my favourite is K2 from the film, and I'm a little disappointed on the lack of detail on him, will just have to work harder with the painting.
DeleteThe seismic charge wouldn't be too difficult, Slave 1 on the other hand might be ! LOL
Between the Tuskens and all of this, you've been really productive! Cassian does look really nice and if I'm not mistaken, he's getting a TV show in the future which could be pretty cool. He was one of the more intriguing characters in Rogue One. The Sarlacc pit is really coming along too! Its just waiting for a certain bounty hunter to find his way in ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, been on a bit of a roll at the moment. You're right there is a Andor series in the works, his character definitely showed how far he was wiling to go. Already have that certain bounty hunter, I'd need to give him a repaint though if I wanted him after he came out of the pit ! LOL
DeleteLoads of Star Wars goodness there Dave, I love all the different paint schemes on the R2 units you do. Nice work on your Sarlacc, though I'm probably in the minority here, but I actually preferred the original version in the RofTJ without the beaky neck part (sorry).
ReplyDeleteCheers Roger.
Thank you Roger, I have a few more colour schemes in reserve for R2 units when I feel like painting some more ! LOL Dai and I agree, just my son has only ever known it with the beak, so to encourage him to want to play I've included it, so it doesn't mess with his OCD.

ReplyDeleteAll great stuff from the Star Wars universe and even to me very recognisable as such. Great colur matching on the rebels and droids too; the pit thing is an excellent scratchbuild too btw.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, the colour matching throws the occasional curve ball, but is good to challenge myself, and glad they were recognisable, pleased with how the pit monster is coming along.
DeleteThese look great - two more copies of Andor incoming so you can have all of the options painted? :D
ReplyDeleteAn impressive job on that Sarlacc as well, though to be honest I still prefer the original verison as it left more to the imagination while the updated one reminds me too much of the asteroid monster from ESB.
Thank you Azazel, just the one Cassian I'm afraid, but maybe a few more K2 units for Imperial use though ! LOL
DeleteI too like the original version, but this is to encourage my son to play, and not mess with his OCD as he has never seen the original version. That's a good call on the resemblance to the space worm
