Technically that was 4 days ago, but I'm running a little late due to the workload I've currently been working through. So below is a list of this years participants and what they're currently up to :
fantoricalwargaming Simon has already completed some 15 mm terrain, and is working on some more, and also some 11 mm terrain for Epic
lostdamnedstunted Dai has already done a tank ( don't forget vehicles count) and has just completed a converted statue for his Genestealer cult.
wargaminggirl Tamsin, has been building a lot of jungles, and when I say a lot, I mean a lot ! Also check out her experiments with making her own clump foliage, a very cost effective way, that she has already worked out the best sponge and types of paint needed for you.
rantingsfromunderthewargamestable Roger has scratchbuilt a mighty fine altar/shrine, he's hoping to find time to do some more before the end of the challenge.
angrypiper Keith has narrowed down the bits he'd like to get done over the challenge, and he's chose some very versatile terrain.
pmpainting Matt has been working on a multitude of different projects, some scratchbuilt, others are improved MDF terrain where he has detailed it up, so it no longer looks like an MDF kit.
azazelx Azazel has been getting through a lot of tanks in different scales, and making the most of the vehicle inclussion.
twitchybristles Mick has said he want's to take part, and is thinking of painting up his WTW toxic pool for the challenge.
saturdaymornings13 Ivor has taken an MDF kit and turned it into a stellar piece of work.
Now the next three all have their own special section, as not only are they making and painting scenery, they all have 1:1 scale projects on the go as well :
justneedsvarnish John has been making some truly great scratchbuilt scenery, but he is also been working on some 1:1 scale masonry although I still think the brush he's using is too big ! LOL
imperialrebelork Luke is working on some very nice looking wild west buildings, some are resin, some 3D printed and some are MDF, should make for a great town. On top of all that, he's building a hobby shed, this project is truly something to be seen, as he's doing this mostly with free materials, he calls it rustic, but I think it has a unique charm all of it's own.
markamorin Mark, is working on a load of Aztec scenery, but also building a new garage, with a second floor entertaining space, it's progressing at a great pace.
This last blog I want to highlight, hasn't entered but I wanted to mention his brilliant wild west buildings he's making from scratch, and also they are in 54 mm so twice the challenge, and that's zabadakszombieworld
If I've missed anybody of this list, please comment below, and I will make sure to amend it.
This last week I have hit a bit of a brickwall with my build, and only managed to achieve the set of wind chimes that are seen in the movie.
Hopefully when I clear all these orders I can finish the last few hurdles and get Jabba's throne room finished.
As a break from scenery I wanted to paint something completely different, and dug out my orc warboss, now when I got him I had every intention of doing a snakebite army with squigoths and cyboars, but that idea died a long time ago, and as I'm not a fan of painting green I used this as an exercise in pushing myself, I've used purple for shading and orange for highlights, with 3 different shades of green inbetween, I've kept it pretty clan neutral.
I have no real use for this model so will probably just gift it to somebody who will get some use out of it.
That's all for this post, so until next time, stay safe and have fun !
Cheers Dave
A nice round-up there Dave and thanks for the mention! :-) I do like the warboss and the windchimes mind you!
ReplyDeleteNo problem John, credit where credit is due. can't believe how long I spent on the wind chimes, they probably took longer than painting the warboss ! LOL
DeleteActually, I can believe it! Fiddly, but very nicely done! :-)
DeleteThank you mate, little things like this keep me happy ! LOL
DeleteVery nice Dave on the roundup. FYI, in addition to the garage, I have just cleared my blog reading backlog (say that three times fast!) and am getting set for a - yes - multi-post roundup of my Tenochtitlan cityscape. Plus keeping up with my garage posts (that's 1:1 terrain, right?) and a surprise golf post. The cityscape was massive. It will be covered in 5 posts - it's THAT big. Anyways, I must say the windchimes definitely caught my fancy, and the ork is cool too.
ReplyDeleteBlog backlogs certainly take a time Mark, looking forward to seeing all of your cityscape, from what you've already done, I can only imagine how epic it's going to be. Indeed that's why Luke John and yourself had your own section ! LOL
DeleteThe windchime is such a silly little piece, just wouldn't feel the same without it, and glad you like the orc.
Thanks for the roundup Dave, looks like a lot of people got stuck in this year. I'm just happy I finished one thing, let alone the others LOL! Excellent work on the ork, 'e looks like 'e's up for a bit ov DAKKA!
ReplyDeleteNo problem Matt, you have been on a roll this year, completing last years project and all the new pieces. Glad you like the ork it was a fun distraction.
DeleteI've been working on some new zombie survivors and a couple of Oldhammer minis as a break from doing scenery. They're coming along nicely. Good job on the windchimes, adding tiny details that people might not even notice in the actual movie is a nice touch and real dedication to getting it right :-)
DeleteSometimes you just need that break mate, I think mine wasn't just scenery, but Star Wars in general, as I've not worked on anything else for 3 months ! LOL Glad you like them, most people would probably say they're pointless, but I like having them there.
DeleteThat is a pretty nifty warboss, and windchimes! Your diorama is going to be spectacular, I'm sure, but I do have to say: "Triple Mega-Supra Bonus Points if the chimes actually work. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Ann, it was a fun exercise on the warboss, sadly I didn't have any small metal tube handy, as it would have been super cool to have them work, so they are just window dressing I'm afraid
DeleteNice war-boss!
ReplyDeleteI still need to do more experiments with the clump foliage to get the method and materials down. That will have to wait though as I've got a lot of jungle still to build.
Thank you Tamsin. You do have a lot of jungle done, and so much more on the go. The experiments will be worth it in the end, and worth a look already for anyone who hasn't seen it.
DeleteThe chimes may not seem much, but they're a lovely detail and who doesn;t need a break from building ? The ork is a mastepiece of imagigination brushwork, well above my level of cometeance but not apprciation - it's great !
ReplyDeleteThank you Joe, actually getting my motivation back at the moment, and have started multiple new bits for the build, guess I just needed a break. It was good trying out multiple techniques on it, and trying to work through my hatred of painting green ! LOL
DeleteNice round up Dave, and there has been some cracking scenery produced so far, not least by your good self.
ReplyDeleteLike the Ork, I'm not a big fan of Orks myself though have painted a fair few over the years for my youngest (the Ork fan).
Would never of pegged Jabba as a windchime man. (lol)
Cheers Roger.
The quality and quantity of this years entries has been outstanding Roger, and ny the look of it the second month should be just as good.
DeleteAs you know I avoid painting green, so wanting to try harder on that colour, an orc is perfect for it.
Perhaps it's there to show if someone's left the door open ! LOL
Thanks for the shoutout Dave!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see so many attempting this challenge and some very fine posts too!
No problem Dai, credit where it's due mate.
DeleteThe entries this year have been outstanding and have covered such a broad spectrum of genres to.
Lovely model and I like how you have painted him. Its good to paint something different to refresh yourself when your working on a big project.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, a break was just what was needed, and a challenge to push myself, was a double win ! LOL
DeleteHi Dave - with a new job and other IRL stuff it's been a whirlwind month and a half, but I'm happy to say the Toxic Pool is done! Will have it all posted up in the next week or so.
ReplyDeleteHope life settles down for you soon Mick, and look forward to seeing the pool
DeleteThanks - also, the thing is posted! http://twitchybristles.ca/2021/08/26/wargames-terrain-workshops-toxic-pool/
DeleteThank's Mick will check it out.
