SCULPT, PAINT, REPEAT

Carrying on with my original Star Wars project, I've got a few more characters for the cantina finished. First up is the band, when I sculpted the one for Jabba's Palace I took a mould so that when I came to do the cantina band I would only have to do conversions, rather than complete sculpts, one had a instrument the same as Jabba's Palace just needed to be painted in a different colour, the rest either needed just arms and instruments, apart from the sitting one which needed a lot more.

The one on the left is called Nalan Cheel, next is Doikk Na'ts, the one sitting is Tech Mo'r, next is  Ickabel G'ont, then we have Figrin D'an, and last in the row Tedn Dahai.

I've also got the two Jawas for the cantina finished, using the blank I made a while ago, so here is Het Nkik and Reegesk.

I've also painted Boshek for the cantina, this was a WOTC model which I repainted.

As you can see from the reference picture he also had a helmet, but I decided to not bother with this.

This next model wasn't in the cantina, but was in Mos Eisley an Asp droid

He appeared in the extended version thumping a smaller droid as the heroes entered on their speeder.

This last set today is a repaint of my own work, originally my Trondoshan Hunters looked like this, I wasn't overly happy with them but they were finished.

After watching an episode of Clone Wars, I found this reference sheet.

So I repainted my hunters to this.

I feel a lot happier with them now, as they are now based of of characters that actually appeared in the franchise. I could have converted the clothing to get them closer, but decided a relevant paint scheme would be enough.

That's all for this post, so until next time stay safe and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Who realised that you could do so much research for Star Wars ? (you perfectionist you!)
very skilful csculpts of the band, you definetly have them well reproduced. - it was even ibvious to me who/what they are, especially given their oh-too-brief apperance. The updated for 'realsim' are equally impressive.
You have been a very busy chap!

    1. Thank you Joe, have been very lucky with some searches that other people had taken the time to do, and gave me a fantastic starting point, however in subsequent searches I've actually found one they hadn't listed, currently only half way through the denizens of the cantina, so still a long way to go yet.
The Trandoshans could have been left, but as everything else was based off the films and series, I wanted these to match

  2. This really has become the definitive Star Wars wargaming blog in my books, Dave. Outstanding stuff on show today. I have a particular soft spot for the Jawas, so tip top work on them. Once I've started clearing a gap in my Marvel Crisis Protocol backlog, I'll be back to Star Wars, so am keeping jntoe of all these great colour scheme reference sheets you keep pointing out.

    1. Thank you Simon, that's high praise indeed with all the great blogs that have Star Wars posts. Jawas are a strange creature indeed but glad you like them. By all means use the reference pictures, it should certainly save some time.

  3. Really wonderful work, Dave! I particularly like your Boshek -- I also painted the same fellow (an old WOTC model) around this time last year. It's amazing how well those old figures look when given a new lick of paint.

    1. Thank you, it's actually a great model, I started mine last Xmas when my children got it for me, but he accidently got hidden by a load of other models on my desk, hence only getting finished now.

  4. Great stuff Dave! It's hard to tell in your photo, but I sure hope those brilliant sideburns of BoShek are on full display lol 😀
So I'll assume that the old WOTC figures match up with the Imperial Assault figures then?

    1. Thank you Ivor, he does indeed have the sideburns, would have been rude to leave them off ! LOL
The WOTC figures match some of the Imperial Assault figures, as I find the scale fluctuates as some of the models are actually closer to Legion scale, the most noticeable is the difference in size between the really tall Weequay and short Gamorrean Guard

  5. I'm running out of ways to prise your magnificent work Dave & with all of that research you do I don't know where you find the time to do all of this wonderful work you keep posting, but giving the time of year it is I'll guess that like a certain man in red you've got a few Elf's to help out :)

    1. Thank you Frank, sorry about the struggles I cause ! LOL No elves I'm afraid, more me trying to fight my illness. As the pain increases, finding something else to focus on means less time thinking about the pain for me. It doesn't work for everyone but it's how I cope.

  6. Never mind "Calvin Klein" I think we all know who the real master of "Obsession" is!! Great work all round, though I do like the "Jiz Warblers", are all these official names or have you made some up yourself? I know nearly everything that appeared in Star Wars has it's own Wikki page, but even the two Jawa's in the cantina!!

Is that the old 2001 pod lurking under the spacecraft in the robot photo too I see, I know they reused it in the background in one of the movies, if so nice easter egg addition by the CGI team.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, OCD can be a blessing and a curse ! LOL They are all official names, but the person who runs yodapedia.net did all the hard work in finding all the names and what position in the cantina they all were. Their list was pretty comprehensive and I've only found 4 that they missed. Once I had the names I was easily able to search for pictures of that character, which is where I found the other 4.
That is indeed the pod that originally you see outside the cantina, so very well spotted Roger
