" PICK'N'MIX "

Have an eclectic mix today, so hopefully something everyone can enjoy.
TIGER
First up is the last of the zodiac warriors the Tiger, have gone for tiger colours that match the area rather than the more orange colour of the Indian Tiger. Have also gone for red leather to define against the browns and black of the stripes. You will notice the weapons I choose for this model is the Tiger Claws as I felt these would be the most fitting.

JABBA'S PALACE
Have now got the denizens painted and tried to match the colours as close as possible to the movie stills as I could. While looking for pictures I did manage to find some more denizens so expect to see more in later posts.

DROID
While painting the denizens  I managed to paint up another R4 unit, still need lots more droids so expect to see more in the future.

ROCK HENCHMEN
Have now painted the first of the two models, these will be part of December's releases, but will be available to you guys as soon as I've finished the second one.

That's the lot for today, so until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

  1. All excellent as usual Dave, great work on the Tiger, (but shouldn't he be green? that's I like my tigers) Bubo is still my favourite out of Jabba's gang, but they are all really well done. It's sad but it would be cool to have a collection of all the different R2 units that have appeared in the films and TV series, though I still think the "power droid" is my favourite droid character in the movies.

    Cheers Roger.

    1. Thank you Roger, a green tiger would look very interesting indeed ! LOL
Bubo is my favourite too, so no problem on that one.
Have started a power droid, but there are about 5 different variants I've found so may make a base unit then convert up each one. Have a few more R2, R4, and R5 reference pictures on file ready to paint up when the muse descends

  2. Wow! A seriously mixed bag today Dave, with lots to see and enjoy. I was especially impressed with the paint-job on your Tiger and some of the lesser known Jabba minions. Marvellous stuff :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, it's good to mix it up from time to time ! LOL was pleased with how they turned out, with lots of cursing at the computer screen while I tried to match colours and patterns

  3. I really love your tiger model, Dave, and it just makes sense to give him a pair of tiger claws. Tigers aren't easy to paint but I do enjoy painting them. Good reference material is essential to getting their colours right.
Excellent paint jobs on the others as well. All in all, a superb post.

    1. Thank you Bryan, your not wrong good reference is essential when painting something that people know what it should look like, and checking your colours as you go as well and never being afraid to change it if it doesn't look right. Had to change direction on the coloured fur while painting on this one as it didn't look right

  4. Dave I know this isn't going to make sense but the first tiger photo is phenomenal, everything is right, but the second shot showing his tail looks wrong to me. I don't know why, but it's the tail!!! Maybe a two legged tiger shouldn't have a tail. No idea why I think that. Painting is spot on though.
That little dog thing is just lovely, I keep thinking - how could I use him in a game that isn't too surreal.
Then I think - by would I worry about that.
    Some lovely stuff.

    1. Thank you John, no problem on the tail as we all have personal preferences.
Bubo is one of my favourite lesser characters from Jabba’s palace, so can fully understand wanting to get him in a game.

  6. I wasn't so sure about the Tiger before, but now, with paint and those lovely claws I'm loving him.

Star Wars denizens really needed more exposure in the films. Am glad we are getting to see more aliens in the recent films. Smashing work Dave.

    1. Thank you Dai, when a models all one colour it can distort the appearance, so fully understandable.
The denizens were so easy to miss, as most of the time they were background shots and only there for seconds, some of the characters never even got a full shot just a piece of them.
The new aliens are some of the saving graces of the new films, really enjoyed Rogue One, and Solo, but found Episode 7 & 8 were poor copies of 4, 5 & 6 story wise with less endearing characters

    2. Regarding the new films: My sentiments exactly! Won't get into it too much on this topic, but Solo might well have topped RotJ as my all time fav SW film. Ever. *sheepish*
Whilst Episode 8 was the first SW film I did not bother to pick up on dvd.
    3. That is high praise indeed for Solo, ROTJ was always my go to SW movie to watch, now it has to compete with Rogue One !

    4. Which also means I could expect a cool Dave Stone version of Rio in the future? :P
    5. You never know ! LOL Have already started a K2, and hoping to pick up the Star Wars Rebels models on my visit to the states in October, as I enjoyed that series as well, in fact looking forward to the new animated series as well
