I'm back from my holiday, and happy to report I actually managed to witness the Northern lights, I will post up some pictures with my next post, as I need to figure out how to download them off my wife's phone (still not fully to grips with the new computer ! LOL) In the mean time I have another finished model, just the one you say, yes as this one really pushed me, it's a model of Gorian Shard the pirate you meet in series 3 of the Mandalorian, I thought it would make a great little unit, him and some of his followers, and this was part of my daughters gift for Christmas (they really did spoil me this year)
So what took so long, was trying to replicate his jacket, in the end I've gone with an approximation of the patterning, it's not 100 % accurate, but will have to do as I don't want to spend the next six years just working on this ! LOL That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !
Cheers Dave

Fantastic work again sir!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michael, it was a challenge, but the only way to learn ! LOL
DeleteOof yeah, that's way too hard to replicate accurately. I think you did a solid job. Will say tho, I barely recall this character - Season 3 was a struggle to get through imo.
ReplyDeleteO and - welcome back! :)
DeleteThank you Dai, sometimes it doesn't pay to do too much research ! LOL I think they were trying to finish a lot of story arcs all at the same time, as there was concerns on how much streaming content they were able to produce, which made it feel a bit rushed, and too be honest Gorian's henchmen got more screen time than he did ! LOL
DeleteAnd thank you good to be back, had a fantastic time.
DeleteExcellent mini, Dave! :-) Can't say I remember him now though!
ReplyDeleteThank you John, he didn't get a lot of screen time at all, or even that many lines, so easy to forget.
DeleteSmashing work on a lovely figure, it's nice when you get spoilt isn't it 😀. Cheers Roger
ReplyDeleteThank you Roger, a really nice 3D print to work on, as with the others, I painted under his jacket before sticking him down, to make life easier. I'd rather be spoiling my children than the other way round ! LOL
Deletevery nicely done my man. you gotta love the obscure Star Wars characters that make it as a miniature.
ReplyDeletethat's like finding the hard to find MotU characters in 28mm. i was surprised someone made a Dragstor lol.
Thank you Mr. Martin, with 3D printing becoming so popular, I'm having to make less of these models myself, which saves a lot of time, especially while I had problems with my sculpting hand ! LOL The 3D artists really are filling a lot of gaps the big manufacturer's are missing, just need a ton of civilians now going about their normal lives ! LOL
DeleteHehe, really cool paintwork!
ReplyDeleteAlthough Star Wars totally ain't my thing - this cosmic rasta dude is ace!
I can see some really cool terrain features - do you have whole battlefield made like that?
Thank you demi_morgana, that's the great thing about this community, even if a model isn't something were into, we can appreciate the work that has gone into it. I'm slowly working through the terrain, so far I have Ben Kenobi's house with interior (scratch built), the shop you see above (3D print) and Mos Eisley's Cantina with interior (scratch built), so need a lot more buildings to cover a 6 x 4 foot board ! LOL
DeleteMaybe, but the final effect is surely worthy all the effort - waiting to see it done!
DeleteI might see if I can fit some in this year during my scenery challenge, as I found a great reference picture last week of the model they used for the extended version of episode 4.
DeleteLooking cool, and I really like what you did to the jacket, it gets the pattern and looks good!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suber, I used some washes for surrounding patterns and solid lines for the main core.
DeleteCracking stuff, and a reminder that I need to catch up with the Mandalorian.
ReplyDeleteA great example of the oddball species that, for me, make the Star Wars universe, and which you seem adept at portraying.
Plus, envious of you seeing the Aurora.
Thank you misterc, I'm currently rewatching the entire series and films in order and am on Mando at the moment so was good timing for me ! LOL I do like the species that you see often but the ones that are even rarer are definitely interesting, just wish that they were equal to the number of humans, as these are alien worlds after all ! LOL
DeleteThe Aurora was amazing, but will say more when I show the pictures.
Lovely work, Dave. Not a character I'm at all familiar with tbh, but your paint-job definitely does a good job of replicating the pics of the pirate you've posted. It's incredible how quickly wargaming figures become available for some of the more popular franchises these days.
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon, even though he is the leader of the band of pirates he actually gets very little screen time or lines, so easy to mot know of him ! Where the world of 3D printing has been involved and don't seem to get shut down over copyright they seem to be able to knock these out pretty quick ! LOL
DeleteHa I knew who it was the second I saw it, which means that you've done a great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you SD, great someone else remembered him ! LOL Matching some of the colors and bits were a challenge.
DeleteI can't remember where I left off in The Mandalorian, I think maybe I watched Seasons 1 and 2 but I'm sure I haven't seen this guy before. He has a really cool and different design! I'm sure at this point its hard to come up with fresh alien species but I reckon, they got it right here! You painted the mini up very well too. That coat looks really difficult to emulate but I think you got it right!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jeff, as I recall you were hesitant to watch season 3 after the Book of Boba Fett, so can understand not knowing who he is, and as you can read above many who have seen that season forgot about him, due to his lack of screen time. For me personally I love seeing more alien races, and having new ones turn up from time to time is a real bonus, the rest of his crew were the usual suspects, Klatonians, Aqualish, Quarren, Weequaians, Nikto browns, even a Ugnaught. His coat came out better than expected, and when I rewatched the scenes recently, I noticed that it was hard to spot the patterning when he was moving about ! LOL
DeleteYou have good memory and I think you're right. I'm not sure I've watched anything new Star Wars since Book of Boba Fett. I'd like to watch Andor one of these days, if I can ever find the time but beyond that, I don't know that there's much Star Wars that's come out lately that I want to watch. I'd like to get back that "loving feeling" again but I don't know when it will happen sadly.
ReplyDeleteI did enjoy Andor, both seasons even if there was too few aliens in it for my taste ! LOL As Lucasfilm is now under new leadership I'm hoping for some great new content, but with what I've been reading we will be getting more films and less series.
DeleteNo idea who he is but he looks great!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thank you Iain, took me a while, but glad I got him finished.
