TOTAL FAIL

Yes it's true I have failed a painting challenge for the first time in my blogging history, even worse it's one where conversions and sculpting are key, which is kind of my go to, no excuses from me just couldn't get it done in time so how far did I get, the  bulk of the body is done, just missing some details, the legs are in varying states, and only one completed. the brain is sculpted and painted, still need to cast the color resin around it, so all in all about 50% done.

Will have to do way better next year as it's the 10 th anniversary of Forgotten Heroes, as I always try to beat my score from the previous year, that's another fail this year, but sets the bar low for next year ! LOL That's all for today, so until next time, stay safe, and have fun !

Cheers Dave

  1. Good WIP shot, maybe a bit ambitious? I generally aim for adequate and sometimes achieve it!

    1. Thank you Iain, as I only thought I'd be able to achieve one, I chose the most complex, but as you say maybe too ambitious in my current state ! LOL

    1. Just kidding! don't be so hard on yourself. I bet the trouble with your hand slowed you down.

    2. That's okay then Stewart ! LOL I will always be my worst critic, if I said I managed 2 hours of decent sculpting, I'm probably over estimating, where most of the time I'd mix some up and it just wouldn't move the way I wanted it to, very little control.

  3. Ach, tarnished pride is all you got from this.

This monk is definitely a project you can back to whenever you feel you're up to it.

I like where you got to on the thing so far!

    1. Thank you Dai, tarnished you say, more like sat in a nuclear crater after a blast ! LOL
I will keep plodding away on it, as I still really want it for my Jabba's palace, still think the abdomen might need to be bigger, with more detail.

  4. No matter what, I believe that WIP pic is simply fantastic and way beyond what I'm capable of. No shame, keep it up!

    1. Thank you Suber, having seen your fantastic conversion work, I would say you are more than capable of building something like this.

  5. Dave, that pic looks an awful lot like the beginnings of a large spider, so I for one am happy you couldn't get it finished LOL!

  6. Definitely something to come back, and it'll be well worth the delay.
It's a very promising start, I'm in awe of your sculpting and scratch building.

    1. Thank you misterc, I will definitely get it finished at some point, as it will help complete another section.

  7. I've definitely failed to meaningfully contribute to a challenge already, probably even twice so I reckon you're in good company! I think you've made some great progress on the sculpting. This monk should look great when you put it together too. Perhaps the best thing about failing the challenge is that it removes a deadline and you can chip away at it as you get time and motivation now too.

    1. Thank you Jeff, guess it can happen to all of us at some point ( except Azazael he's a machine), once all the legs are done, it will be a lot further to being complete, and will also make it easier to gauge all the other parts and if they are the right size to.

  8. Well that already looks really good, sucks to miss a deadline but this being your first after all those challenges I don't think it's a bad showing! Plus you have good reasons.
